Mountain weather can be very unpredictable, so the trick is to always be prepared. Dress in layers so that you can add or subtract for comfort. In winter, just use heavier layers. And, although the east side of the Cascades is drier than the west, it can get windy. Always be prepared for both wind and precipitation. A lightweight wind and water-resistant outer layer is ideal clothing to bring, regardless of the season.

Cle Elum / Roslyn
Upper Kittitas County is the gateway to a vast wilderness area. Few other areas offer the abundance of recreational opportunities available here. Located at the foot of the Cascade Mountains with access to thousands of acres of mountain forest and high country lakes and streams, the area is a summer paradise for backpackers, campers and fishermen. In the winter, the hills and mountains draw cross-country skiers, snowmobilers and showshoers to find their own paths or follow the many groomed trails in the Wenatchee National Forest and across state and private lands.
In the towns, museums retell the colorful local history. Cle Elum, Roslyn and South Cle Elum all have parks available for public use, and the Coal Mines Trail runs from near Cle Elum's Flag Pole Park, to Roslyn, and on to Ronald.
